Editor’s Note: Just over 2 years ago, the anti-Pope Francis removed the Bishop of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, who was appointed to that office 12 years before by Pope Benedict XVI. — While there is an easy explanation why his removal was illegitimate (antipopes cannot remove bishops, since an antipope has no authority to remove anyone from office) — the petition of his supporters which has gathered 30,000 signatures argues that it was merely hypocritical and unjust and therefore should be rescinded.
Bishop David Fernandez Torres, however, at the age of 58, remains one of the youngest cancelled Bishops in the Church.
On the anniversary of his removal, the good Bishop protested against Fiducia supplicans with a very sound argument: “Christ died on the Cross to conquer sin, not to bless it.”
