Editor’s Note: The Church of Malankra is an offshoot of the Catholic Church in India, founded by the Apostle St. Thomas, and which was openly friendly to the Portugese when they arrived at the beginning of the 16th century. But conflict with the Portuguese led to a schism from the Roman Church. This Church today is recognized to have valid sacraments and has good relations with the Apostolic See, though not in sacramental communion.
