Editor´s Note: Ignacio was murdered on June 3, 2017, as he attempted to stop the Islamic Terrorists during the London Bridge Attack. His father graciously granted an interview to OMC Radio TV, so that his story could be told in the English Speaking World.

Excellent interview!
Just one detail, you said that he was born in Ferrol, Navarre. But as far as I know the only town that goes by that name is located in the region of Galicia (in the NW corner of Spain).
Truly a brave man to sacrifice himself for others! Not sure if Martyrdom is being used correctly in the modern Church! We can also call others Martyrs that rescue a drowning person or protects someone from a rapist or a thief and gets killed…though a person is Catholic was the “shedding of their blood” was specifically to defend or bear witness the Catholic Faith that would be under attack?
“The martyr bears witness to Christ who died and rose, to whom he is united by charity. He bears witness to the Truth of the Faith and of Christian Doctrine.”
Those who give their lives to save others, have not been termed Martyrs in Church history, which confined the terms to those killed because they were Christians hated because of their faith. Those who gave their life, like St. Maximilian Kolbe, who is now reckoned a martyr of charity, should be honored, I think, but they are much more common, and are certainly heroes. The Church has not yet magisterially responded to this question, however.
