Perpetual Supplica

THESE PRAYERS ARE SAID EACH MIDNIGHT
IN FRONT OF THE BASILICA OF SANTA MARIA MAGGIORE AT ROME

This devotion is inspired by the request made by Our Lady Herself in
Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich’s Vision of

August 25, 1822: “I know not now how I went to Rome last night, but I found myself near the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Around it I saw crowds of poor, pious souls, in great distress and anxiety on account of the Pope’s disappearance and the agitation and alarming reports throughout the city. Led by one common impulse, they had come to invoke the Mother of God. They did not expect to find the church open, they intended only to pray outside. But I was inside, I opened the door and they entered, astounded at the door’s opening of itself. I was standing aloof where they could not see me. There was no service, only the chancel-lamps were burning, and the people knelt in quiet prayer. Then the Mother of God appeared. She said that great tribulations were at hand; that the people must pray earnestly with extended arms, if only for the length of three Our Fathers, for it was thus that her Son had prayed for them upon the Cross; that they should rise at midnight to pray thus; that they should continue to come to Her church which they would always find open; and that they should, above all, pray for the extirpation of the Church of Darkness. … I know not whether the people saw the apparition or not, but they must have been impressed by something supernatural for, when the Blessed Virgin said they should pray to God with arms extended, all lifted up their arms … It seemed to be an association of prayer.” From this time Sister Emmerich assisted nightly at the pious exercises at Santa Maria Maggiore. Tears today, but tomorrow Rejoicing!

by Br. Alexis Bugnolo

The Coronavirus panic has proven once again that without the Catholic Faith, mankind has not stability or fortitude of mind or heart. Without Faith in the Risen One, there is no expectation that this world will not be or become anything but a vortex of despair, panic, terrors, disasters and death.

But for Christians, we know that tears are only for today, but joy is eternal. That is, for we who believe.

Because the Faith teaches us that for those who are being saved by fidelity to God, all suffering is passing, but all true rejoicing is forever.

This is our meditation for Holy Saturday.

The tragedy that Our Lord Jesus Christ would be put to death by a complete conspiracy of both civil and religious leaders is something most of the Catholic world can personally taste this Holy Week.

The High Priests and Pontius Pilates have taken Jesus away from us, and we do not know where to find Him.

Let us stand with Our Lady, who as our best of mothers is terribly saddened at our plight. Let us offer Her tears before the Throne of God, so that with Her, as on Easter Sunday, they can pass away and be turned into rejoicing.

Let us resolve that we next we can go to Mass, to do so with the greatest joy and thanksgiving to God.

Wishing one and all,
a Blessed and Holy
Resurrection of Our Lord!

2 Investigative Journalists: Corona coverage is Corona Hype

by Br. Alexis Bugnolo

FromRome.Info presents here an un-official English translation of a public letter of protest by Catherine Riva and Serena Tinari, 2 investigative journalists who specialize in the coverage of health issues in Switzerland, and co-founders in 2015 of Re-Check, an organization which reports on issues of the quality of health care in the Helvetian Republic. They wrote in French at AntiPresse.net, on April 5, 2020.

Swiss media and coronavirus: stop fueling fear

by Catherine Riva & Serena Tinari

We are concerned that the current media coverage of the coronavirus epidemic is primarily anxiety and emotional. This stems at least from two factors: on the one hand, a presentation of the figures which does not allow to get as realistic a view as possible of the gravity of the epidemic and the way it is evolving in Switzerland; on the other, to the tendency to pinpoint unrepresentative individual cases or very specific situations like that of Bergamo (Italy), without putting into perspective.

In fact, the Swiss public does not have the necessary information they would need to judge whether the measures taken in the name of its protection seem acceptable and justified to them, in particular with regard to the negative effects which these measures already have and will increasingly deploy. , in particular on the health of the inhabitants.

The federal authorities do not provide certain indicators which would make it possible to analyze the situation on the best possible bases and, unfortunately, in the vast majority of cases, the media do not demand them.

This essential information that the authorities do not proactively communicate, for example, the evolution of the case fatality rate (CFR), the criteria according to which the tests are carried out or the basis on which deaths are attributed to COVID-19 (is it enough that a patient who dies carrying a coronavirus infection to say that he died “because of COVID-19” or other criteria are applied?) . And unfortunately, to our knowledge, hardly any journalist has asked for them. Instead, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and the vast majority of the media continue to systematically present first the cumulative number of cases identified and the cumulative number of deaths, which strengthens the public day after day. the unfounded impression of an epidemic spreading like wildfire and ravaging our country.

Unfounded impression because, to date, the models which predicted a dramatic evolution likely to jeopardize our health infrastructures turned out to be wrong: our intensive care units are not overwhelmed, on the contrary, they even have enough capacities to accommodate several dozen patients from France. And even in Italy, a closer look reveals that the extremely difficult situation facing Lombardy and, to a lesser extent, Emilia-Romagna ( https://www.epicentro.iss.it/coronavirus/bollettino/Report- COVID — 2019_30_marzo_eng.pdf ) seems to remain limited to this geographical area, no other region has experienced a similar development.

The obvious ability of Swiss hospitals to quickly mobilize the resources necessary to absorb a possible outbreak of serious cases and the uniqueness of the Lombard drama which does not extend to the rest of Italy is reassuring news. They also represent very important information that should be further highlighted and processed to inform current and future decisions in public health policy and population restrictions.

Unfortunately, these aspects are regularly overshadowed in favor of scary words. Two examples illustrate this trend well: during the press briefing on March 19 in Bern, the federal authorities did not hesitate to describe the situation in the canton of Ticino as “dramatic” without providing figures to support this assertion. And on March 28, the FOPH described as “huge” the figure of 280 people on artificial respiration in Switzerland – without being able to provide an indication of what would be “normal” in the field . The media did not insist that the words be clarified; in the second case, the journalist even apologized for asking the question and none of his colleagues present wavered.

In the same spirit, Federal Councilor Alain Berset was able to affirm that “the crisis” was going to “last until May” without the media which interviewed him asking him to explain what he meant by that, and without the media which quoted it later not deem it necessary to seek to learn more.

Finally, we are very concerned about certain indications which suggest that there is a control of information by the government, even that censorship is at work. Commenting on the interim results of a survey it is currently carrying out on the subject among journalists, the journalists’ association Impressum noted with concern in its April 1 newsletter:

“Of the 118 people who responded, some relate the prohibition of access to photo-reporters on public land, sometimes going as far as censorship by the police. These are not isolated cases – one third of respondents have already been prevented from doing their journalistic work. Certain cantonal crisis management authorities are apparently trying to control all the information published. ”

In a situation as confused and tense as that experienced in Switzerland today, it is essential that the media fully assume their function: by refusing to be intimidated and to give in to self-censorship, by holding the authorities to account, and making every effort to provide citizens with truly relevant information that enables them to understand the ins and outs of the current situation.

Italian Bishop’s Conference: After COVID-19 it’s time for a New World Order!

by Br. Alexis Bugnolo

Some people plot against the masses in secret, but others announce from the headlines of their newspapers their plots and agenda.

Such is the case of the national newspaper published by the Italian Bishop’s Conference — the Catholic one — on their official website, Avvenire.it, on Good Friday, when the Church is supposed to be remembering the Redemption of the World by Jesus Christ — BUT DID NOT — because Bergoglio ordered the Bishops to cancel all services in Italy, before the Government even attempted to do so.

In an opinion piece entitled, Coronavirus: È il momento di gettare le basi per un nuovo ordine mondiale, Agostino Giovagnoli calls for — you can perhaps gess it — a New World Order.  In fact, his editorial in English would be entitled — if one translated it literally — Coronavirus: Now is the time to lay the foundations for a new world order.

Somehow, this sounds like Kissinger, no?

Agostino Giovagnoli is a tenured professor in Modern History at the Catholic University of Milan.

The editors of the National Catholic daily subtitled his editorial, La pandemia ha generato percorsi di solidarietà inediti. Da questa base si può ripartire per unire i Paesi nella lotta ai veri conflitti. That is, in English:  The pandemic has generated unheard of rushes to solidarity. On this basis one can begin a new to unite the Countries in the battle against the true conflicts.

Peace and security? Yeah, that is what his piece is all about. He closes his editorial, with these words:

Which in English would be:

The European States, today, are very committed to confront the challenge of a greater internal solidarity.  But they should not omit that which the can do for the world in its totality, which is, moreover, a manner to help even themselves.  They could, for example, welcome the occasion, together with the United States, China and all the others,to lay the foundations of a new world order, capable to stop the “piecemeal third world war” and the very bloodly local wars, as the Secretary General of the United Nations, Guterres, has asked and as the Pope has called for, make a “new start for the world” after the Coronavirus.

Our Lord is hanging on the Cross to make a new start for the world, and they are publishing a piece about a New World Order. The mention of China is not occasional. The essay bears a picture of a political rally in Italy with Chinese flags.  One can guess who pays for the foreign policy of the Vatican and Italian Bishop’s conference these days….

Somehow, I think they should have given their editorial space to Saint Paul, who in the fifth chapter of his First Letter to the Thessalonians wrote also about peace and security, but in an entire other vein:

1 But of the times and moments, brethren, you need not, that we should write to you: 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord shall so come as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say: Peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief. 5 For all you are the children of light and children of the day: we are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do: but let us watch, and be sober. 7 For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breast plate of faith and charity and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation. 9For God hath not appointed us unto wrath: but unto the purchasing of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for us: that, whether we watch or sleep, we may live together with him. 11 For which cause comfort one another and edify one another, as you also do.

Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich foresaw that Bergoglio would close the churches

by Br. Alexis Bugnolo

There are many things in the Mystical Visions of Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich which speak to our days and of our day. One regards what appears to be her seeing the suffering which the Catholic world is now subject to, in the closing of the Churches: a vision the Blessed had which offers us a glimmer of hope:

I saw the fatal consequences of this counterfeit church; I saw it increase; I saw heretics of all kinds flocking to the city.  I saw the ever-increasing tepidity of the clergy, the circle of darkness ever widening.  And now the vision became more extended. I saw in all places Catholics oppressed, annoyed, restricted, and deprived of liberty, churches were closed and great misery prevailed everywhere with war and bloodshed. I saw rude ignorant people offering violent resistance. But this state of things lasted not long.

(From the Life and Visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich: Vol. 2: Visions of May 13, 1820)
